Why we do it

We believe that it is not enough to provide people in need with a steady stream of handouts. People should be concurrently given the right resources to discover, develop and meaningfully utilize their abilities and capacities. The research is undeniable that when people take ownership of their socioeconomic improvement, it is more sustained. Our support is primarily in the areas of skills training and development, health education, and social research in continual search for enduring ways to ensure equitable human progress. We also aim to provide services to help those who meet our criteria to procure interest-free microcredit facilities where available. We recognize that being poor, or living within debilitating socioeconomic conditions, should not rid people of their agency. Everyone deserves the opportunity to exercise their agency to better their circumstances, and agency to improve their livelihoods for their families and communities. It is important to facilitate people’s efforts at effecting their own social change and improvement in wellbeing.

Our efforts will be altogether fruitless if we do not acknowledge and aim to address any of the structural conditions that perpetuate the cycle of poverty and marginalisation, like gender and other sociocultural inequalities. Although our initiatives are in specific areas, they are guided by this underlying recognition of structural inequalities.
