What we do

Give a person a fish, and you feed them for a day; teach a person to fish and you feed them for a lifetime. (Variation of a quote by Lao Tzu).

The above citations informed the creation of Heads Hearts ‘n’ Hands (H³) and continue to constitute our guiding principles. One of the cruelest aspects of living in poverty is that people are robbed of their dignity, unable to cater for themselves and their families in the simplest ways. Many people in Ghana live in a web of deplorable conditions where they cannot adequately feed themselves and their families, they cannot afford formal education, jobs are unavailable to them, there are no healthcare facilities in their communities, and they cannot afford the transportation and other costs needed to access healthcare where such facilities exist in neighbouring communities, etc. H³ is endeavoring to use a multifaceted approach to address this complicated reality of poverty.

We assist people in whichever way we can to help meet their immediate needs, especially in emergency situations. Recently, in the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, we have organized a Gofundme campaign through which we have provided hand sanitizers to over 300 people in marginalized communities (urban slums). These communities are especially hard hit because they are overcrowded, rendering it impossible for any effective practice of physical distancing even when they stay at home. The majority of them also do not have access to running water and cannot afford hand sanitizers to maintain hand hygiene.

We also made food donations to families in dire need who were finding it difficult to feed themselves. Additionally, we purchased face masks and gloves for health personnel at the Madina Polyclinic Kekele. This is severely under-resourced health facility that caters to highly populated marginalised communities.
